Hoping to be the last full day at hospital!

Well it has been a week & things are progressing pretty well!  Wednesday the goals were to walk three times, get drains out, keep coughing & keep food and drinks down.

She absolutely hates walking the halls, but we did get her to the toy room where she got to do some foot and hand painting!

Afterward she was told the TV had to go off for a break & she fell fast asleep!  She needed it, but was being too stubborn to realize it!

After her nap, she got a cute little monkey and some balloons from her class!  Then we just kept waiting for the drains to come out!

At around 3pm, she got moved to another room, because they wanted to "surge" around the corner to have more PICU beds and less step-down beds on the ward because of more sick kiddos.  The reason was understandable, but the move was less than wonderful.  We got moved back to a tiny room, with a tiny bed that is not even long enough to lay on straight.

Finally around 4pm they came in to take her drains out.  They did a fantastic job with her.  They gave her some versed and fentynl to help sedate her a bit and make it less painful.  The child life specialist came in with the ipad and did a fantastic job of distracting her and the APN used towels and coverings as she took the drains out.  The first one came out without Amie barely even noticing.  The second one she winced just a bit, but then went right back to the iPad!

After the drains were out, she got to eat some dinner, which she immediately threw up.  A couple of hours later she had a couple bites of pizza, some fruit, some ice cream and a bit of a smoothy and kept it all down.

This morning, she has eaten some of her breakfast & is drinking some liquids.  Doctors want her to eat and drink more before letting her go home.  She is also still on the thickener & we are having a battle with the insurance company about whether she should be on it without having a video swallow study first.  Gee - go figure, insurance companies trying to practice medicine again!

I am pretty sure we will be heading home this afternoon!!
